PART2..CHRISTIE BROWN Vs ITUEN BASI: WHO’S THE ORIGINATOR OF FRINGE NECKLACE?

I know you are all waiting for my Part2 of the story and here I come. But before I give you the load down, I want everyone to know that am not doing it because someone ask me to do it neither am I doing it to paint either of the label black.
Both are doing wonderful not only locally but also on international scene and they’ve been taking African fashion to the next level which is impressive.
But also to make it clear that people can’t be praising you all the time. If you put up something great, we will talk about it and celebrate you and same apply if it goes other way round.
I contacted the two designer and they both gave me the details of their design, when it was launched, shows they’ve showcased it and the inspiration or how they came up with it. After my analysis, you can now judge if you want to but my purpose of publishing it is not to judge them but to allow you know the truth and have your say.

Christie Brown said she didn't researched Ituen Basi collection before she came up with the design and beside she never for once claimed that she invented the Beads Necklace. She first showcased it in South Africa in 2010. “Beads necklace is something have been seeing for long with my grandmother, so it’s not something that i copied from Ituen Basi” Said Aisha

Ituen Basi first launched Beads necklace with her 'Rustic Chic' 6 looks in 2007 at Kulture2Couture show organized by the Mayor of London's office to celebrate 17 BME designers and it was later known as ‘Seyi Necklace’.  “The idea then was to keep the accessories as close to the garments as possible” Ituen Basi.

Also in 2008 when moved back to Nigeria to set up the Ituen Basi label, She said she was unable to source appropriate accessories to complement the pieces so the idea of 'Ankara and Beads' was conceived and the ‘Seyi necklace’ was re-incarnated.

Seyi necklace was also part of the 20 looks the label presented at the inaugural Africa Fashion Week, South Africa in 2009 and also showcased in Lagos for Daviva in 2010.

Now you have heard from the two party and is now your turn to decided if you think one person copied another. But the fact from the explanation remains that Ituen Basi started it way back in 2007 while Christie Brown did it in 2010 with pictures prove from both side. Christie Brown said she never see or researched Ituen Basi beads necklace before she came up with her own and never claim that she is the originator.

I wish two of them the best as they continue to make us proud. Now your comment.
