TOP 10 INDEPENDENT FASHION BLOGS IN AFRICA

There was a tremendous growth in African fashion this year with lots of international buyers coming in to partner and established their brands in Africa. This arises as a result of standard fashion shows that took place during the year to celebrate African fashion like Arise Fashion Week in Lagos, Lagos fashion & Design Week, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in SA, Nigeria Fashion Week, Fashion Night Out Ghana, Glitz Africa Fashion Week & Ghana Fashion & Design Week in Accra, Ghana, Hub of Africa Fashion Week in Kenya, FAFA in Nairobi, Mozambique Fashion Week and recent Swahili fashion week, just to mention few. African fashion not only celebrated in Africa continent but also enjoy good promotions outside the continent like Africa Fashion Week in London, Dallas, Paris and many other places.

World most popular “Fashion bible” Vogue also dedicated one issue to Africa fashion during the year with visitation to some countries. IHT Luxury conference in Rome recently now leaves me with no doubt that Africa is the next big thing.

I think event organizers and designers owed a lot to fashion bloggers for their immense contributions in projecting African events and creative work of the designers.

In other to encourage their effort, FashionManiaGh decided to partner with Laak ConsultLtd, an IT consulting firm based in Nigeria and Ghana to carryout research on “TOP 10 INDEPENDENT FASHION BLOGS IN AFRICA FOR 2012” to celebrate, encourage and as well create more awareness for independent fashion blogs in Africa

In the course of this research, we received series of complains on why some blogs like bellanaija.com, lindaikeji.blogspot.com, ameyawdebrah.com and others who are well known didn’t make the list and what are the criteria for choosing the blogs.

Below are the criteria we used to define independent fashion blog:

(1)  Must have 90% fashion contents (60% out of the 90% must be dedicated to African fashion) and

(2)  The blog must be 6months and above.

Those blogs we received complained from their readers are not independent fashion blogs and didn’t meet the requirement. Though, they have fashion as a column on their blogs.

Voting for top 10 was conducted on www.fashionmaniagh.com blog and notification was sent to all the nominees and as well promoted on social media for readers to vote for their favorite blogs. Trendsandblends.blogspot.com got the highest vote but lost marks in the world rank and contents.

CRITERIA FOR THE TOP 10 ARE:
- 40% to public vote
- 30% to world rank (www.alexa.com)
- 30% to Content of the blog.
