ORGANIZERS BRACE UP FOR MAIDEN EDITION OF GAMBIA FASHION WEEK

Plans are at an advanced stage for the staging of a maiden international Gambia Fashion Week that will attract top-notch fashion personalities, notably from Europe, to The Gambia, the Daily Observer has gathered.
The GFW, as the organisers call it, will be organised in the country at the end of the year, notably in December, by the Runway Productions International (RP), formerly SoFashion-SoAysha, a high-profile fashion event and public relations agency owned by Aysha Jones Ceesay, a Gambian based in Sweden, who strives to promote talents from all around the world, with a keen interest in West Africa.
The Agency that targets smaller and new brands and looking to gain further recognition as a leading high fashion brand within the fashion industry is renowned for organising events like this. Its clients include famous and regular brands such as Fifth avenue shoe repair, Stephen Arthur, Richmond Design and Sara Braave.
"We are now in the process of making the first ever Gambia Fashion Week (GFW) and we want to make it a successful one. We are therefore teaming up with the best of both countries in order to make the GFW a fashion event to talk about and remember," Aysha Jones Ceesay told the Daily Observer from her base in Sweden.
She further stated: "The Gambia Fashion Week will take place for a period of seven days, with opening and closing ceremonies on the first and last day of the Week as well as daily after parties at a prestigious night club. It will also host minor shopping events at local shops and restaurants in order to raise awareness about their existence and products. All fashion shows will be held at one and the same venue and require a special invitation to attend. Events at various shops, restaurants and clubs are open to the public. Some shows will also allow public attendance."
As expected of such an event, a line of media institutions both in The Gambia and Europe are expected to give a full and extensive coverage of the Gambia Fashion Week. "Media coverage from both countries is being arranged as we speak," CEO Ceesay disclosed.
But what other sort of activities will characterise this event? Ceesay further explained: "As we wish to promote and inspire we will give away the prestige full prize "Designer of the Year" within fashion design for women, men and accessories, as well as the honorary prize of "Trendsetter of the Year", male and female. These will be given in a lovely diploma as well as a cash prize.
