MODERN DRESSING: IS IT FASHION OR NUDITY?

 What is Fashion? Fashion is the way an individual has chosen to appear or boost his self confidence or ego.In Nigeria today,the mode and style of dressing come in different pattern, and colour. One of the factors said to have influenced the fashion industry is the media which project movie, musical video, new fashion trends e.t.c.Nearly everyone likes to wear something new, that is why we sometimes buy clothes not because an older garment has worn out, but simply because we want to change our wardrobe or relish the urge to be seen in a new attractive attire. Also, we do not want to look out of place. So we buy clothes that conform to some degree to the style worn by people whose sense of style or fashion we admire.

The fashion industry in Nigeria has, over the years, envolved and is now competing neck to neck with other fashionable countries in the world such as Paris, Newyork and London. Trust Nigerians; they over do things even more than those who set the trends of fashion statement. The rate at which ladies dress these days all in the name of fashion and civilisation can be described as barbaric, as some of them even go to the extent of almost going nude, all in the name of red carpet fashion.

Depending on our religion, orientation, belief, tradition or specific environment, some Nigerians, especially the youths, are faced with an unprecedented fashion consciousness virtually introduced and dictated by the so called Western world.In this regard, it is common to see especially many young females in and outside our community in dresses which boldly show the difference   between gross indecency and grandiose immoralty.At various times, they appear in some fashion fads which expose a better portion of the thighs and cleavages which are suppoed to be covered.

All these to the lustful eyes of the opposite sex while some bother and often cannot help express their disguist against such an ugly trend. Not much is said about the professionals and office staff who go to work even on a hot afternoon wearing suits.
