Press briefing about Swahili Fashion Week 2012
The fifth edition of Swahili Fashion Week gets underway in Dar es Salaam on December 6 with strong support from the East Africa Radio and Television (EATV).
The marketing executive and events coordinator for East Africa Television and Radio, Happy Shame, said the event will be covered through Nirvana beauty and fashion program.
She said the popular radio and television are proud to be associated with the sponsorship of the leading East and Central Africa fashion week.
The Swahili Fashion Week manager, Washington Benbella, expressed his sincere appreciation to the radio and television stations for supporting fashion industry in East and Central Africa.
He said the event is expected to showcase creativity and forecast future fashion of 50 stakeholders from Swahili speaking countries and beyond.
He said the event will be launched on Sunday at the Thai village in Dar es Salaam and various awards for the week will be announced.
Benbella named other sponsors of this year event as Golden Tulip Hotel, Vodacom Tanzania, Ultimate Security, Precision Air and National Arts Council (BASATA).
 “This year’s edition will be fantastic as we have on board 23 established Tanzanian designers and the rest are foreigners who will showcase their work on this platform. We really appreciate all sponsors for this support,” he said.
He also said the event has incorporated Swahili Fashion Week shopping festival where it is expected that more than 30 exhibitors would display their products.
“Going by its tradition, the Swahili Fashion Week provides platform for budding talents. There shall be an open models casting for new and upcoming male and female ones on Sunday.
“December 7 will be a day for free workshop sponsored by USAID when all fashion designers in the country would compete,” he said.
The sales and marketing coordinator for Golden Tulip Hotel, Catherine Lumbanga, said her hotel is pleased to be one of the sponsors of the event.
She said the fashion week is the platform which helps to promote the country’s heritage and culture.
The fashion week would highlight Tanzania’s potentials in terms of beauty and culture to all visitors of the event.
