NIGERIA FASHION DESIGNERS MAKE BRISK BUSINESS

As the festive celebrations draws nearer, fashion designers in Abuja are getting high patronage from customers.

Cross section of fashion designers spoken to at the weekend, described fashion design as lucrative business during festive periods.

A fashion designer at Mambila Barracks, Blessing Innocent, said she has been in fashion design business for many years and enjoys doing the job.

According to her, three years was spent learning the trade before she set up her own fashion business.

She said fashion design has witnessed a lot of improvements over the years with the introduction of industrial sewing machines, which makes sewing easier unlike in the past.

"The patronage we receive from customers today is as a result of new styles and designs we introduce every day," she said.

She said customers are charged based on the style/designs they want, adding that she collects between N3,000 and N4,000 for ladies skirt and blouse.

On his part, Kola Olayode, a tailor at Mararaba said the business is lucrative especially during the yuletide seasons.

"You can generate money from this business if only you are hardworking and know how to welcome customers as well as give them the best they want," he said.

He said sewing of trousers or shirt cost about N2,000 but such prices are open to bargain, especially when one is dealing with long time customers.

Some tailors appealed to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria to guarantee them stable power supply in order to meet-up with the dates given to customer to collect their dresses.
