Two young Gambians were crowned ‘Face of Fashion 4 Africa’ in the male and female categories during a well attended night competition held at the Jama Hall of the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Kololi.
Nyanya Gaye, 19, and graduate of SBEC International, emerged winner in the female category, whilst Ibrahim Ceesay, alias Iba Model came out as the victor in the male category after several rounds of the competition.
The winners had satisfied the judges who were given the task of adjudicating the tight competition by the founder of the project – Face of Fashion 4 Africa, Anna Njie, and co-partners like Chilel Dubois of the United Kingdom, and Mbenga Mbaye, a local partner. Being the winners, Ms Gaye and Ceesay are billed to have a modeling contract and the opportunity to enter Model Color in 2014.
Speaking to this reporter in an interview shortly after being crowned the winner, Ms Gaye described her victory as a dream come true. “I am very happy that I made myself, my family and everybody that have been there for me proud. It was a tough competition. At the beginning, I was not confident, but I promised myself that it is something that I want to do,” Ms Gaye told this reporter.

The young model dedicated her victory to her mother, whom she said had inspired when she was crowned Miss Gambia in 1996. “I did my best to prove to everybody that I can do it. Being the Face of Fashion 4 Africa, I am going to be the ambassador of The Gambia and I would do everything possible to raise the flag of my country, to tell the people that we are proud of being Gambians,” she concluded.
Also speaking to this reporter, Ibrahim Ceesay, who described the competition as tough, said he is delighted to be the winner of the male category.“It was not a beauty competition; it was not about who looks prettiest; its about who can become Gambian super model,” a renowned international modeling expert, Sola Oyebade alias Mahogany of the Top Model Color (TMC) stated, while speaking of Anna Njie’s commitment to expose the models internationally.
The woman behind the scene, Anna Njie, described the successful organization of the initiative as a fulfillment of a long dreamed goal she had yearned to execute in the quest of empowering Gambian and African youths. While acknowledging that she and the co-organizers had worked tirelessly to make the event successful, Njie concluded by emphasizing that she has the belief that Gambian youths can do it.
