ASSOCIATION OF FASHION DESIGNER KENYA, SAROVA & CHASE BANK PARTNER FOR FASHION REALITY TV SHOW

A new reality show is bound to hit TV screens to showcase Kenya's diverse fashion tastes traversing across all the 47 counties. It is to be brought and supported by the Association of Fashion Designers (AFAD) in partnership with Sarova and Chase bank.
"Yes, fashion is not understood by some. But our mission is to bring out the best fashion talent beyond Nairobi," said Sally Karago, the chair of Afad.
Ms Karago said time is ripe for the fashion industry to be recognised as a sector that creates employment. Afad's aim is to change the perception that fashion is a hobby. "Afad is trying to show that fashion and design is a business and it can be a lucrative one," Peggy Onyango, the vice-chairperson of Afad said.
The auditions are set for July and are open to all designers between the ages of 18 to 55 but the interested fashion designers must have technical and creative skills.
The TV show will be 30 minutes long and run for 13 episodes. The contestants will compete to create the best clothes based on a different theme each week.
Their designs will be judged and one or more designers eliminated until only a few contestants remain. Three finalists will make garments to be showcased during the Safari Fashion Week in November.
One of AFAD's representatives, Helen however could not give out further details on which TV station it will air and who will be the host.
