The Oval in Westlands was turned into a
fashion city as the 6th edition of the Festival for Fashion and Arts
Gala went down on Saturday night. FAFA is one of the biggest fashion show in
East and Central Africa and it did not disappoint. The L-shaped runaway
set up and lighting could rival those found on international fashion
week platforms like New York, London, Milan and Paris just to name a
few.
After the initial confusion in regards to sitting arrangements, the show started a little after 8pm. First off the runaway was the Kiko Romeo collection by designer Ann McCreath. Her daughter Iona made her debut as a designer by showcasing her fashion designs under the label 'Kikoti', that earned her much appreciation.
Other notable designers were Mancini Migwi, Angelsmile House of Design by Wambui Kibue, whose lace themed bridal collection was stunning, Nick Ondu's Ankara Vintage who is also the designer behind Sauti Sol group, Muna Yemane and Waithira Kibuchi.
A group of South Sudanese designers put together a call for peace collection that featured beautiful coloured beading and colours of their national flag. Spotted in attendance were deputy director in charge of State Branding and Events Thomas Kwaka aka Big Ted, Ian Mbugua, news anchor Lillian Muli, Lupita Nyong'o's mum Dorothy Nyong'o, talk show host Jeff Koinange, commercial director, GM at Seasons Hotels & Lodges Delishoi Taleng'o, Keino Sports Marketing MD Martin Keino.
As FAFA is a not-for-profit event, the proceeds for the event went to Seed of Hope, an NGO dedicated to helping disadvantaged and vulnerable teenage girls. The Heineken sponsored after party took place at the rooftop and went on till the early morning capping a fantastic fashion event.
