We at FashionManiaGh always happy to hear or see people or organizations using fashion to fight poverty and empowered in the society.   Ghana News Agency reported that NGO, Global Host Project and Cape Coast Polytechnic are teaming up to sponsor 20 young women in the Cape Coast Metropolis to be trained in fashion designing, dress making and beads arrangement for 12 months.

According to the Country Director and Co-Founder of the organization, Mr. Kwesi Oduah Sampson at the launch of Global Host Fashion Project at Cape Coast Polytechnic, said the project, whose beneficiaries are from seven communities, was aimed at giving women more remunerated work to become economically independent.

He continue, globally people are having limited access to decent work thus impeding the advancement of women, particularly the youth in most developing countries.  So, it is pertinent, therefore, for such groups to be offered alternative pathways to gain the requisite skills to earn a living wage  and have their basic survival needs met and to also contribute  their quota to  the growth of their communities.

He said a great deal of clothing was made in Ghana and since dressmaking was a lucrative venture, the best answer to the economic downturn and youth unemployment was to ensure that young people acquire such employable skills and relevant training needed to enter the world of work with confidence.

Mrs. Sophia Pardie Ocran, Head of Department of Fashion Design and Textile Studies, thanked the NGO and promised that the best efforts would be put in their training to make them productive.

Mr. Uriah Stonewell Tetteh, Vice Rector of Cape Coast Polytechnic, expressed gratitude to Global Host for the project and said it was in line with the school’s vision and urged the students to learn the craft with all seriousness.
