HOW GOVERNMENT CAN BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ITS DEEDS ON TRADE POLICY IMPLEMENTATION - TITILOPE OJO

Dealing with government agencies in African and most especially in Nigeria can be frustrating. Some has narrated the experience as unprofessionalism while others emphasis on the level of corruption in the system.

Titilope Ojo who is the Exporter Voices Lead of Trade Policy Workstream, Policy Development Facility (PDF II), a programme funded by the United Kingdom (UK) Aid revealed that an online app, reportgov.ng has been launched by EBES where people are encouraged to submit their complaints about government MDAs. The affected MDA is expected to provide redress for any complaint received. Ease-of-Doing-Business Secretariat monitors and ensures that the system works and complaints are treated promptly.

“Over time in the course of our dialogues, we’ve had some of the MDAs like Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), NAFDAC and others seated, to discuss the experiences of the exporters and get feedbacks in real time. We are also synergizing with the Ease of Doing Business Secretariat of PEBEC on monitoring reforms in the business environment especially trading within and across borders.  The feedbacks from these dialogues have served to highlight areas that need reforms and to also monitor and evaluate the success of current efforts.”

Now the general public can take advantage of this platform to channel their complain while we are hopeful that the concerns would be addressed.
