Glamm Fashions is a unique African inspired fashion house that focuses on capturing the beauty and exquisiteness of African fabrics through the creation of elegant clothing items.
Their summer 2012 collection dubbed Playful Romance 2 is an elegant yet playful, glamorous yet flirty collection. It is inspired by the notion of romance and playful fantasies. A lot of their visual inspiration came from movies from the 50s, parent’s photo albums from the 70s, and fashion advertisements from the 70s.
The collections sees a mix of Ankara fabrics with lighter materials such as patterned chiffon, lace, silk and also some damask and added adornments to the female pieces.
While many of the pieces in playful romance are reminiscent of eras past, the designers added modern twists to the clothing to create structural silhouettes. The end results were astounding – elegant yet flirty peplum dresses, fitted jumpers with bow details, vibrant rompers, patterned chiffon, wide-leg pants, flirty lace tops and dresses, and classic men’s linen tops with structural asymmetrical details, to name a few.
GLAMM was formed by two artistic friends (Mary Ajetunmobi and Gbemi Alli-Odedina) in 2009. The company was birthed out of the women’s keen desire to create unique fashion items that merge African fabrics with Western culture design patterns. Their clothing exudes the beauty and elegance of African fabrics and embellishments, while also playing on adornments from the Eastern and Western cultures.
