For some years now, lots of Ghanaian celebrity have ventured into clothing line business but it's really unfortunate that only few of them were able to survive the lucrative business. John Dumelo of Jmelo, Sarkodie of Sark Collection, Guru of Guru Collection, Prince David Osei, Mugeez of R2Bees, Confidence, D Black, Obrafour, Tic Tac, Lord Kenya, Alex Bomaye and now Ghanaian actor Van Vicker flouting billboard for his clothing line to join the league.
But likes of Sarkodie, Confidence and few others are still pushing hard to sustain the their brand but majority of the clothing lines didn't survive 2 years before they packed up while others are presently dying slowly.
Van Victor recently posted on his facebook page "After the rains, flood and more rains I finally got the billboard up. The VAN VICKER collections...the class act. A personality clothing line produced my Tetteh Plahar. In stores soon. #TheVanVickerBrand #TheEntrepreneur #TheYoungGodFather #JustBecauseICan #MySuccessStory @tettehplahar
Sometimes I ask myself if these guys are really serious at all! After launching of the clothing line, you will hardly see them or clothing any of their celebrities friend wearing the brand to events and top functions instead they rock another local or international designer brand. According to Ghanacelebrities.com "At 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Sarkodie came wearing a white clothe designed and tailored by Chapter One, leaving his Sark clothing lines for Sammy Forson to manage. John Dumelo came in suit, leaving all his JMelo designs at home to rot. D-Black also came wearing a suit. Indeed, in the case of D-Black, when he was asked on the red carpet who he is wearing he said “it’s a secret. I don’t want to reveal it.”
These left me wondering if they actually believe in their own creations or is just one of the many ways for them to make empty noises.
In the coming week, I will do update on the current state of the celebrities clothing lines.
